Yang Hu (胡洋) (b. 1989, Lanzhou, China) works across drawing, hand-drawn animation, and sculpture to explore grief, impermanence, and the rituals of parting. Working with fragile materials — charcoal, pastel, and wax — she uses erasure and obscuration to render things on the verge of disappearance.
Her animated film Lǎo Lǎo (姥姥) has screened internationally, including at Center for Asian American Media (CAAMFest), Vancouver Asian Film Festival, and San Diego Asian Film Festival.
She has been awarded residencies at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (2026) and Kala Art Institute (upcoming).
Yang currently lives and works in Berkeley, CA.
